Obituary

Cynthia A. Buchholz, born on December 9, 1966, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Ronald and the late Marian Ray (née Moon), passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024.

Growing up in Parma, Ohio, until 1975, Cynthia's family then moved to Lafayette Township, Ohio. She graduated from Cloverleaf High School in 1985 and pursued her passion for education at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Special Education.  She was a distinguished member of Phi Epsilon Kappa.

On October 20, 2001, Cynthia married the love of her life, Scott Buchholz. She was a devoted mother to Joshua Buchholz (deceased) and Evan W. Buchholz, who is now 20 years old, who instantly became the second love of her life!

Cynthia is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Jeff Ray and many dear friends and colleagues.

Cynthia was an avid and competitive bike rider, earning numerous gold medals in races.  She was a cherished member of the Cleveland Triathlon Club (CTC) and she proudly completed the Whirlpool Iron Man competition. In her late 40's she challenged herself to join the Cleveland Rowing Foundation.

In her free time, Cynthia found joy in knitting and attending music concerts, where her eclectic taste in music truly shone through.

Since 1995, Cynthia dedicated her career to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) as a Support Administrator. She was a driving force behind an art program that empowers individuals with developmental disabilities to create and sell their artwork, a legacy that continues to inspire and thrive.  One thing Cynthia was most enthusiastic about was over the years, the CCBDD community has actively supported various conferences. They recently sent two individuals to the Self-Direction conference in Baltimore and a few months ago, others attended the Milestones Autism conference in Cleveland. Next month, they will participate in the Synergy Conference. One of the primary goals of Cuyahoga DD is to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to advocate for themselves, helping them to identify and communicate their needs to live their best lives.

Cynthia's work with the DD community and her unwavering passion would best be reflected in her final request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Cuyahoga Board of Developmental Disabilities, 1275 Lakeside Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44114, with "Synergy Conference" noted in the memo section of the check.

Cynthia's warmth, evident in her radiant smile, unwavering dedication, and zest for life, touched everyone she met. She will be profoundly missed and eternally cherished.

*****A Celebration of Life is being planned in Medina (place and time to be determined) after which, Cynthia will be interred at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin.*****
