Marianne Ruple Gardner, age 74 of Willoughby Hills, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 16, 2016. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 7, 1942, Marianne was the daughter to the late F. William Ruple and Marian Haldane Ruple-Bremble. Marianne was renowned by friends and family for her generosity, loyalty, intelligence, and sense of humor.
Marianne was a graduate of Hathaway Brown School (Class of 1960) and Ohio Wesleyan University (Class of 1964), where she met George A. Gardner, whom she married on December 28, 1963. They adored one another and built a wonderful life together, raising four children: G. Andrew (Stacey Hollingsworth), Abigail Jaeger, William DeWitt Miller (Megan Moore), and Rebecca Vaughn. Marianne was the cherished and proud grandmother of Drew, Aaron, and Caroline (children of Andrew and Stacey) and Adeline and William (children of William and Megan). She was also the beloved sister of F. William Ruple (Sherri) and Thomas D. Ruple (Sharon Stewart) and a dear aunt to many.
Marianne was a skilled collector and antique dealer, specializing in children's books and dolls from the 1930s and 1940s. She enjoyed nature and gardens of all kinds and was an avid genealogist. Marianne worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland as an economist, at Central National Bank of Cleveland as a research analyst and at Master Builders division of Martin-Marietta before having children. Most recently, she was an Officer of Ruple Companies of Lake County.
Family will receive friends Sunday, August 21 from 3-7pm at DAVIS-BABCOCK FUNERAL HOME 4154 Clark Ave. Willoughby.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 1pm at Willoughby United Methodist Church 15 Public Square, Willoughby. Pastor Hazel Partington will be officiating. (Please meet at church.)
