Michael entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2024, while visiting his homeland of Leros Island in
Greece, the place he cherished the most.

(Peter) and Markia Ameres (Gus), proud Grandfather to Charlie Hliatzos, Michael Hliatzos,

Cimino, and Niki Gamaledine.
Michael was born on February 9, 1948, on the island of Leros in Dodekanisos, Greece, to
Konstandinos and Ekaterini (Katina) Kontos. He was the oldest of three children. Michael
served in the Greek Navy and later worked as a crewman on many Greek freighters, which
enabled him to see many parts of the world. He later came to the United States in 1970
settled down and started his family. Michael worked at the Brown Derby, and later worked at
Modern Tool and Die for 19 years. He later realized the American Dream by owning his own
business as the proprietor of Angela's Family Restaurant for over 40 years. Michael was a
staple in the St. Clair-Superior Neighborhood of Cleveland, and supported various charities
and organizations from the area. He loved cooking and trying out new recipes. He truly
enjoyed his work and treated his customers and employees like they were his family.
In the summers, he looked forward to going back and visiting Greece, visiting many family
members and close friends. Michael was full of life and enjoyed making others laugh. He was
always willing to help those in need, no matter how big or small. His greatest joy was
spending time with his four grandchildren, cooking for them, giving them lifelong advice, and
most of all joking with them.
