Richard was born in Pittsburgh in 1928 and grew up in towns in the Pittsburgh area where his father, a Methodist minister, was serving. He graduated from Allegheny College and the University of Pittsburgh. Drafted into the army, he served in Cleveland during the Korean war. He stayed in Cleveland after his military service and worked at Higbee's department store, rising to become a senior buyer and traveling to Europe regularly to search for the best products for the store. He continued to commute regularly to Pittsburgh, to visit his father and to get together with other relatives. After retiring from Higbee's he remained in Cleveland. Richard passed away September 1, 2017 and is survived by his two nephews, Richard Hartung and Kirk Hartung. A memorial service will be held 10am Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Mt.
