Obituary

Christos Aristides Kontos passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 18th, 2021 at the age of 70.

The oldest of three cherished children to Aristides and Eftihia Kontos, Chris was born in Athens, Greece on January 10, 1951.   In pursuit of greater opportunity, his family immigrated to the United States aboard the TSS Olympia, 10 years later and settled in Cleveland, Ohio.

Chris was a larger-than-life character with a gentle and carefree spirit.  Growing up, he could often be found listening to rock & roll music and spending time with his friends and cousins.

He was a 1969 graduate of West High School and proudly earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College by 1975.

A 30 year-career as the General Manger of the Brown Derby Roadhouse led him to Sandusky, Ohio, where he enjoyed welcoming patrons with a smile and developing lifelong friendships with the staff.

By 1986, he established roots in Milan, Ohio with his family and supported his children with his whole heart.  To his kids, Chris was the definition of hard work, love, strength, and perseverance, an example worth following.

He was always up for an adventure to explore new and familiar places and a true Cleveland sports fan, win or lose.   As the unknown fifth member of The Beatles, Chris loved strumming his guitar and composing original songs for his family.  He enjoyed hitting the links, busting a move on the dancefloor, and satisfying his sweet tooth with an orange vanilla twist.  But his heart was most full making memories with his family and friends.

Chris will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, iconic mustache, kind heart, and courageous spirit.

His wisdom, strength, and legacy will continue to live on through his children;
Alexandrea (Paul) Stelzer, Victoria Kontos, and Christian (Emily) Kontos.  Always, he will be Pappou to his grandsons Henry, Oliver, and the late Noah; cherished son of the late Aristides and Eftihia Kontos; dearest brother of Yanoulla (Sam) Hussey and Evangelos (Irene) Kontos; dear uncle to Hellene, George, Andrew, Gregory, and Arrin; and loved nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Demetrios Ladies Philoptochos Society.

The family will honor Chris’ colorful life and receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22nd at the CANNON-CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME, 6953 W. 130th Street, Parma Heights, OH. 44130
The Trisagion Service will be held at 6 p.m.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23rd at
St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 22909 Center Ridge Road, Rocky River, Ohio 44116 with the Rev. Father Andrew Lentz officiating.
