George Harriston Obituary
George Michael Harriston (Haritakis) age 90, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord at home on Tuesday September 19, 2023. Beloved husband of Stella Harriston (Savaris) for 57 beautiful years. Loving father of Hope Tzagournis (John) and Michael Haritakis (Connie). Dear Pappou to Luke, Sophia, Charlie, George and Gus. Son of the late Michael and Hope Harriston. Brother of Kathy Harris and the late Helen Maropis (late George Maropis). Loving uncle and great uncle to many.
George was born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of immigrant parents from Crete, Greece. George was the first person in his family to attend college and dedicated his life to his love of science. He graduated from Case Western Reserve with a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology. George was an entrepreneur at heart; he was a builder, farmer, businessman and microbiologist. In addition to his chosen career, George was privileged enough to serve in the United States Army, where he met lifelong friends.
The importance of faith and family has always been of the utmost importance to George. He has always shown his children the importance of prayer. In addition to the importance of faith, he always strived to laugh and keep his wit and sense of humor during trying times. Most of all, he showed unconditional love and how to love unconditionally.
He was a true friend to many and his deep love for his family extended to his in-laws, sister- and-brother in-laws and numerous friends. He and Stella were lucky enough to take many trips with their dear friends. Hope and Michael, with laughter, will remember him most for his love of animals and the farm he so dearly loved. He lived his life surrounded by sheep, cattle, horses, burrows, chickens and his beloved dogs which brought him much joy.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday September 22, 2023 at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church 4548 Wallings Road, North Royalton, Ohio 44133. Visitation will begin at 10am with funeral services at 11am. Interment St. Theodosius Cemetery.
