Robert Luman Murdoch, born on January 7, 1931, died peacefully on March 12, 2022.
He was the son of the late Robert and Agnes Murdoch.
Robert and his beloved wife, Barbara, were about to celebrate their 69th Wedding Anniversary on March 28, 2022.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his son Michael Murdoch (Claire),
his daughter Patricia Murdoch (Mark), his grandchildren Amy Coleman (Tim), Matthew Pringle and Janette
Murdoch, his great-grandchildren Gwendolyn and Talia Coleman and his brother Russell Murdoch (Sandra – deceased).
Robert graduated from West Schaaf High School and Fenn College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
He served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1954-1956.
He worked as a civil engineer for Barber & Hoffman Inc. for 39 years.
His company sponsored a bowling team which Robert enjoyed for many years!
Robert loved to play softball, and he played on several privately sponsored teams for about 25 years.
He also played softball for the Ridgewood United Methodist Church softball team.
His final years in softball were with the Huffers and Puffers softball league,
where he not only played, but also was an umpire and the head of the umpires for the league.
He was chosen as the Huffers and Puffers “Man of the Year” in 2012.
Robert was an avid Bridge card player. He also loved to do gardening around his house.
Robert and Barbara were Founding Members of their Sunday School class called the Harvesters at Ridgewood United Methodist Church. The Christian fellowship shared among the families in the class bring back many precious memories. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Ridgewood for many years.
Other family remembrances include the fun times at our summer cottage in Concord, Ohio and the twice-a-year timeshare at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Family vacations to Florida and Virginia and to Cape Cod in Massachusetts, to name a few, were very special!
Robert will be interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio with Army military honors.
A Memorial Service of Worship will be held
Friday, March 25th 11am at
Ridgewood United Methodist Church
6330 Ridge Rd. Parma
where the family will receive friends from 10am until time of services.
Reverend Karen Wolcott will be officiating.
Lunch for family and guests following the service.
